This season I am excited because I joined my local garden club and met lots of nice people who love to garden - like me!

And I decided that I would revive and replant my huge veggie garden this year. For nearly 20 years it has been full of plenty of herbs and veggies I enjoyed and shared with friends. Now I am planning for this year. I hope to have the best crop ever. Follow along in Veggie Garden.

I Think Sunflowers Are Special

I've grown sunflowers for awhile now and I am still in awe over this beautiful specimen. Sunflower buds form in mathematical precision using golden angles and spirals. The sunflower displays so well this obvious a sign of connections in mathematics and biology.

Sunflowers can seem like little people to me. Did you realize that they face the sun throughout the day. And they have faces, heads, and necks that "move". This is referred to heliotropisim, moving the flower head across the sky to follow the sun morning to evening throughout the day. How fascinating to observe this in your own yard!

Spring Planning Chores

#1 Start Planning Your Garden Design
I begin planning next year's garden in my head before the last year's garden is done growing. You know "next year I'm gonna put the tomatoes over there". These thoughts gel into a garden plan that will eventually go onto paper sometime before April. Try it yourself and ease into the final plan so you can get it on paper yourself just once (or twice). Have fun!

#2 Visit your local Lawn and Garden Retailers
Look for sales on garden equipment as the retailers gear up for spring.
Find specials on garden supplies online too.
