About A Sunflower Lady
Hi, I'm Karen
I'm a babyboomer, grandma, and widow and I've been a home gardener all my life.
From spring to fall here in northern Illinois my gardens are blooming with annuals, perennials, herbs, veggies and the wildflowers that reseed themselves each year.
Some time ago I discovered some of my neighbors call me a "Sunflower Lady". Isn't that nice?
See, I planted sunflower seeds down the middle of my veggie garden awhile ago.
Thanks to the birds and chipmunks spreading around the mature sunflower seeds, I've had sunflowers growing about my yard ever since. I help them out some too.
Have you noticed how popular sunflowers have become lately? Home gardeners want to grow them. Teachers plan class projects for students to grow sunflowers at home.
I notice sunflowers are used in decor in the media. Sunflower paintings and vases filled with sunflowers seem to appear in the background in movies and tv scenes. Watch Reba to see how many sunflowers you spot.
I LOVE SUNFLOWERS. They are so interesting. So I filled this site with facts about sunflowers, sunflower photographs (mostly my own) and more garden photos and flower pictures.
Feel free to use my sunflower photos and flower pictures for anything you want - school projects, Internet graphics, or whatever. I'd be honored.
I've lived in Illinois most of my life. As a tot, I remember my mom's veggie garden and that she made raspberry jelly once with too much pectin so it was like hard jello. I remember picking those raspberries and I ate that jelly anyway. Now my grandchildren pick my raspberries in July and eat them right away. They also like the mulberries I have aplenty!
